Mathias Davis was born about 1836 in Ripley County, Indiana. His parents were Isaac Davis (b. abt 1811 Kentucky, d. abt 1861 probably Indiana) and Eliza Jane Butner (b. abt 1816 prob. Jefferson Co., Indiana, d. abt 1876 prob. Bartholomew Co., Indiana) who were married in Jefferson County, Indiana 8 October 1833. Their children were:

They are on the 4 Jun 1860 census of Ripley Co., Indiana with a one year old son, John. Matthias died during the Civil War and letters to his wife are linked above.
